What Happened
Multiple Conservative premiers passed laws claiming their provinces could ignore or refuse federal laws they disagreed with. Alberta did it first. Saskatchewan copied it within months using nearly identical language. Critics argue these "sovereignty" laws function to block federal climate policy, healthcare standards, and Indigenous rights — all while claiming it was about provincial independence.
